The “Amami Dorozome” collection from Studio D’artisan is a limited series of garments dyed on the island of Amami shima using the traditional Japanese dorozome (mud-dye) technique. This centuries-old method combines vegetable tannins with iron-rich mud to produce earthy tones unique to each piece. The Amami region is renowned for its mineral-rich soil, which allows for greater dye variation and exceptional longevity. The 5717 shirt is made from a custom-woven Boro jacquard fabric inspired by traditional Japanese textiles. Crafted in Osaka, the shirt features a classic workwear-style silhouette with two utility chest pockets and tagua nut buttons.
