Somewhere between the textile merchants place on Roger de Llria and my hotel, Plaa de Catalunya, I make a wrong turn.

On my second pass through a narrow street, a voice from above.

Turn right at the corner this time.

I look up to find my personal Baedecker on a second floor balcony. Rather resplendent, I think, in a boldly-embroidered blouse.

How could she know where I was going? It doesnt occur to me to ask the question until Im nearly at my hotel.

I did ask to take her photo and inquire about the provenance of her top. (Chennai by way of a vintage clothing shop on Portobello Road.)
